The name of the Valentine Gallery is inspired by F. Valentine Dudensing. From 1926 to 1947, the Valentine Gallery was a center for modern art in New York. The founder and director of the gallery, F. Valentine Dudensing (1892-1967), presented the works of contemporary artists - both European and American artists. The Valentine Gallery presented the first solo exhibitions of the works of Giorgio de Chirico, Joan Miró and Piet Mondrian in the USA. In addition, Dudensing arranged important retrospectives of works by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Chaïm Soutine and Maurice Utrillo
